Aug. 19, 2020, 5 p.m.
It's been just over a week since our first walk event post-lockdown at Hylands Park in Chelmsford. Hosted by one of our regular supporters and Braintree bros, Danny Horne, even with the combined effects of public wariness around the pandemic and a late summer heatwave, it was still a good turnout all things considered - nice one Dan!
Like most things at the moment, resuming our usual activities as a group is a marathon, not a sprint. One of the things that's amazing about being part of a men's mental health group is that, mentally speaking, we're all from different walks of life and different viewpoints, but our commitment to supporting one another, however we're coping, is unchanged.
Some are going (carefully, of course) about their usual business again. Others are a little more worried or are struggling. Many are still fearful about what lies ahead in the next month, the winter, 2021. We understand that there's a lot of challenges lying in wait, some of which we have more control over than others.
But what matters right now is how we all support each other in the present moment. Take the first five minutes, then the five minutes after that. A nice little positive mantra to have, even when the world's not a crazier place as it is currently.
So tomorrow night, us W&T4M bros (we like to call it Knights of the Round Table, or Round Zoom Call in this instance) are convening to talk about plans for the coming months going forward, to see how we can continue to safely deliver and bring you the walks that have helped so many men realise that mental health does matter and that it is OK to talk. Even if that's from 2m away!
If you or anyone you know are interested in getting involved with the walks we run, mental health first aid training or have any ideas or suggestions please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
The email address to get in touch with us is firstname.lastname@example.org, or you can find us on social media, just search @Walkandtalk4men. Do drop us a line. We'll bring biscuits.
Stay safe, stay mentally well, live long and prosper 👍
