Report: Grassroots Suicide Prevention - Virtual Suicide First Aid

Oct. 8, 2020, 4:30 p.m.

Hello everyone,

Alex here - how are you all doing? Hope you're keeping well and safe.

Since becoming part of our wonderful group of bros, and especially since I started leading walks of my own, I have longed to do some training in Mental Health first aid.

My first steps towards that came today, as I got involved with a fantastic opportunity James told us about a few weeks ago with the community organisation Grassroots Suicide Prevention, who are based down in Brighton.

It was a Virtual half day training course in Suicide First Aid, which myself and 20 other members of different community groups from across the UK took part in, led by Christine Clark and Celia Mae Jones from Grassroots.

I've got a lot to take in and process from the course, as it was - expectedly - quite moving in places, but I was surprised by how uplifting and empowering it was, and I know what I've learnt and taken on board today is gonna help us all so much as a group going forward.

Thanks again James for putting me forward, but also thanks to the Grassroots ladies for letting us take part today, it was an invaluable afternoon and I will definitely be back for more further training soon.
